Use of interactive infographic in the PMCP – Analysis of indicators to improve the quality of maternal and child health

  • What it is?

    This project developed a data analysis and visualization platform designed for all participants in the Mãe Coruja Program of the state of Pernambuco (PMCP). The platform enables users to extract strategic data aimed at enhancing the program’s effectiveness. It focuses on implementing and practically applying policies that consider high gestational risk and sexually transmitted infections. Currently, health databases are primarily used for consultation purposes. The project created an intelligent cloud platform for analyzing and distributing health information to improve care for women enrolled in the PMCP.

  • How was the experiment?

    Through the analysis of the Mãe Coruja Program database, which between 2016 and 2017 included 5,000 pregnant women classified as high risk, the project explored the concept of interactive infographics to assist in locating and monitoring these high-risk pregnant women.

  • Why is it innovative?

    The cases of syphilis are increasing (the percentage over the last 7 years is alarming at 693.48% in Pernambuco), despite being a treatable disease with accessible, low-cost medication: penicillin. However, the scarcity of communication channels and information about STIs, especially among vulnerable populations, weakens awareness and access to preventive measures and, consequently, treatments for these diseases. Visualizing data through interactive infographics helps interpret the situational location of high-risk pregnant women within these populations. Using geographic distribution data, it will be possible to prioritize referrals for childbirth assistance and control vertical transmission of syphilis. By exploring this data modeling, efforts can be combined to improve the public measures already adopted by the PMCP.

  • What problems it seeks to solve?

    There are various efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality among managers at different levels, including specific guidelines for high-risk pregnancy care in primary care. Quantitative analyses of the correlation between STIs and congenital malformations in newborns will be conducted during the project, as the number of STI cases is increasing in Brazil, particularly in Pernambuco. Currently, health databases are consultative. By offering an interactive interface based on computational analysis and information delivery, the project contributes to enhancing and expanding care for women registered in the Pernambuco Mãe Coruja Program – PMCP, while also serving as a model for designing and implementing responsive health interventions that are contextual to the territory.

  • Brazilian Health implications

    The developed platform can assist in the early identification of pregnant women at risk, enabling preventive actions and treatments for preventable or easily manageable diseases. Analyses are performed on virtual servers in the cloud, and results are presented through an accessible mobile interface. This approach enables real-time data visualization and supports the health care network in prioritizing care at different points, such as laboratories, specialized clinics, health units, and maternity hospitals. Additionally, the platform integrates tools for monitoring critical data and regional indicators, supporting actions aimed at improving maternal and child health.
