Project name

Impact of atmospheric cariation and the Covid-19 pandemic period on the health of women and children in Sao Tome and Principe

About

Climate and health are connected worldwide to understand the seasonality of specific diseases. For instance, the temperature and indoor humidity range are linked to increased respiratory diseases. However, there are no studies on this topic in São Tomé and Príncipe. Thus, this retrospective study aims to investigate the intersection of maternal and child health, the COVID-19 pandemic, and climatic variations in São Tomé. The study will collect statistical data aggregated with demographic and socioeconomic data related to the presence of respiratory diseases and climatic variations between 2018 and 2021. The data from family planning, prenatal care, maternal and child health records, laboratory tests on pregnant women, and vaccinations will be collected. The goal is to establish a database that evaluates the socioeconomic and climatic determinants that affect access to and use of family planning services.
